EVACUATION INFORMATION:

As of 12:00 noon yesterday (Monday 8/27) residents in all evacuated areas were allowed to travel to and from their homes. This includes all evacuated areas of Douglas Station, Peckinpah Acres, Wild Rose Lane, and Cascadel Woods. ONLY residents are allowed in at this time.

Residents are reminded there will be heavy truck traffic on the roads and to keep their travel to a minimum. For the safety of residents and firefighters, everyone is requested to drive slowly, and with headlights on.

CURRENT FIRE SITUATION

Today crews continue mopping up 300 to 500 feet inside the containment lines. Mopping up is an important part of fighting a wildfire. Hot spots can smolder and burn in root systems for days and suddenly emerge in unburned vegetation after fire crews have left the area. This situation makes it important for firefighters to continue to work in the fire area, even though the fire has been contained.

Rehabilitation of the fire lines continues today. One of the primary rehabilitation actions is to install drainage ditches (water bars) to prevent erosion.

PUBLIC SAFETY

All burned forest areas should be avoided until after the first good rain and wind. Children should be cautioned against exploring the burned areas. Several factors make the fire area dangerous including lingering hot spots, burned out stump holes, and unstable standing dead trees and brush. Branches of burned live trees can fall at any time. Injuries and even deaths have occurred in burned areas due to the above conditions. Please be cautious and stay away from these areas until it rains.
